IS YOGA FOR ME?

Benefits of yoga

There are a lot of different reasons why people choose to do yoga. Physical benefits of holding yoga postures include but are not limited to: increased flexibility and strength, better balance and coordination and stiffness and tension release . On a deeper level, yoga practitioners learn how to cope with anxiety, become more emotionally stable and overall feel better prepared to face the challenges of everyday life.

Yoga is also a hugely joyful experience as the practice invites us to be playful and explore new things about ourselves. It really doesn't matter if you roll out of your balance and fall! Just like in childhood, you'll laugh, shake it off and move on.

In short, the answer to the question, "Is yoga for me?" is "Sure! It's for everyone!" The important thing, though, is to find the style that resonates with you.

Yoga and medical limitations

You must have heard about yoga's positive physical effects, such as lower back pain relief or digestive disorders alleviation. While yoga and the life style it promotes will definitely make you feel better, it is important to understand that yoga is not a replacement of medical advice. If you experience any symptoms, you should absolutely see a trained medical practitioner and discuss with them if practicing yoga is safe for you. At any point in your practice, you should be aware of your limitations and avoid any postures that can be harmful for you.

Finally, even if you are not working with any physical limitations, we all on our yoga mats work past our ego limitations. Yoga related injuries most of the time come from following your ego and pushing yourself too hard when you know your body is simply not ready.

So be aware of your body, be kind to yourself and just follow your breath in exploring your amazing body.
